New Meeting Dimensions – Reconstruction of Hall 1

The CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf is expanding its capacity and getting a facelift. A complete reconstruction of the adjoining Exhibition Hall 1 is planned, which will increase the size of Hall 1 to 12,000 sqm. The planned completion date is summer 2019. The Congress Center, too, is being redesigned. It will also become possible to use the newly created foyer as an event area. Six new, splitable conference rooms are envisaged, as well as 300 underground parking spaces and a covered open-air plaza below the futuristic translucent canopy with LED lighting.

Questions about the Reconstruction

What exactly does the construction project comprise?

The construction project comprises the construction of the South Entrance including the re-design of the forecourt and the building of a new Hall 1 (replaces the current Halls 1 and 2). At the same time, the CCD Süd will be completely modernised in the period 2015 to 2021 – always in the summer months.

What will the new South Entrance of the Exhibition Centre look like and what does this mean for the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf?

The CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf is given a new face. The characteristic feature of the construction project will be a 20m high canopy measuring 7,800 square metres and made of translucent glass fibre fabric with LED lighting.

The existing Halls 1 and 2 will be replaced by a new 12,000 square-metre, pillar-free hall. Extending over 2,100 square metres, the foyer in front of this hall will double as event area.

There are six conference rooms on the 1st floor that are connected flush with the event floor of the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf via a glazed aisle. They have a floor space of 200 square metres each and can be split in the middle by means of mobile partitioning walls.

Why will the CCD Süd be refurbished?

With the on-going modernisation we are adapting our facilities to the requirements of the convention and meetings industry so as to respond even more flexibly to our customers’ requests.

Why will a new South Entrance and a new Hall 1 be built?

These measures create multi-functional areas with an event feel thereby substantially increasing delegates’ quality of stay. This is also contributed to by two direct passageways to Nordpark.

When will the construction works take place?

The works at the South Entrance and Halls 1 and 2 will start in May 2017 with the demolition of the current Halls 1. The construction works are expected to be completed  by July 2019.

CCD Süd has been modernised continuously since 2015 and this will continue until 2021 – always over the summer months.

To what extent will the re-building impair operations?

All CCD entrances will be freely accessible during the construction phase.

Infrastructure and technical facilities will be available in full as usual.

Needless to say, we will make sure the inconvenience caused by this re-building – such as noise or dust – will be kept to a minimum.

How will the access situation change during the construction phase?

A detailed logistics concept regulates access to, and exit from, the construction site and minimises inconvenience in the surroundings of the fairgrounds and CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf.

During the construction phase all transportation of material to and from the construction site will be directed to the motorway exit “Messe/Arena” and “Am Staad” street.

After the construction site has been prepared Stockumer Kirchstraße and Rotterdamer Straße at the CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf will be affected and the bus stop for line 722 will be re-located slightly.

The passage between the exhibition centre and the Rhine on Rotterdamer Straße will be possible over the entire period.

This concept has been coordinated with the relevant authorities.

Which parking lots will be available during the construction phase?

Parking lot P3 will not be available during the construction work. As an alternative 500 places for customers will be made available at parking lot P5 at Rotterdamer Straße 500.

After completion of the construction work the number of parking spaces will rise from 730 now to 960 at CCD “Süd” thanks to the newly built underground parking.

Beyond this, there are extra parking spaces (20,000) surrounding the exhibition centre.
